ASRL uses a high pressure visual cell with sapphire windows. Synthetic fluids are gravimetrically made in larger cylinders (ca. 100 cm3) by charging H20(Z), H2S(Z) and C02(Z) respectively. 3 MPa. Fluids are then heated and expanded into a visual cell (single phase). The cell is immersed in a glycol bath and is cooled below the hydrate temperature to induce hydrate formation. The temperature of the cell is then slowly raised until the hydrate disappears (melts). Note that hydrate formation can be limited by nucleation and growth kinetics, whereas, the hydrate melt is only limited by diffusion.
